About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for French III (FREN 1F90) for the Fall/Winter 2026-2027 academic year. This position involves teaching a face-to-face course, including lectures and labs/seminars. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and collaboration with the French Studies department. The role requires native or near-native fluency in English and French, commitment to Standard International French, and competence in using web-based pedagogical techniques and common office software. The position is subject to course enrollments and budgetary approval.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies.
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level.
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French.
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French.
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level.
  • Official student and peer evaluations.
  • Teaching dossier.
  • References.
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching.
  • Active participation in curriculum development.
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation.
  • Student assessment.
  • Prompt and accurate marking.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Preparation of lectures.
  • Student consultation.
  • Marking and grading.
  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Work closely with BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses.
  • First hour of seminar/lab in each course for instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent.
  • Responsible time management, including course structuring and punctuality for lectures.
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required).
  • Proctoring exams.
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams.
