About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for French III (FREN 1F90) for the Fall/Winter 2026-2027 academic year. This position is for a face-to-face delivery mode. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration. The instructor will also work closely with the BUFA course coordinator or the Director of French Studies. The compensation for this role is $7,887.59 per half course or $15,775.20 per full course, effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
