About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for French III FREN 1F90. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. The course will be delivered face-to-face during the term. The compensation is effective September 1, 2026, with a rate of $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally) or $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally). Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of French studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of second-year language courses in French at a University level
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and French
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International French
  • Evidence of teaching competence in second-year language courses in French at University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations

  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation

  • Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g., course structuring, punctuality for lectures)

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Working closely with the BUFA course coordinator in multi-section courses or with the Director of French Studies for single-section courses
  • Commitment to participate in required committee marking including online activities, mid-term and final exams
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams
