About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Introductory Spanish Language SPAN 1F00, Section 2, for the Fall/Winter term. This position involves both on-campus and online components. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration. The role also includes working closely with the Hispanic and Latin American Studies Program Coordinator for single-section courses.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD or PhD abd) in Spanish Studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of Spanish at a University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and Spanish
  • Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International Spanish
  • Experience in computer-based instruction
  • Experience in the incorporation and development of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials, and resources in a blended/online/hybrid course delivery
  • Application of online student tracking systems
  • Competence in the use of web-based course administrative tools designed and supported by the University, as well as Connect, LearnSmart, Brightspace and similar eLearning platforms
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
  • Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required)
  • Proctoring exams

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
