About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Introductory Italian ITAL 1F00 D1 LEC Section 2, a face-to-face course delivery for the Fall/Winter term. This position is for an existing vacancy within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. The course is scheduled for Mondays from 1900-2200. The nominal hours for a half course are 195, and for a full course are 390. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of Italian studies
Record of sustained successful teaching of language courses in Italian at the University level
Native or near-native fluency in English and Italian
Evidence of competence in second-year language courses in Italian at the University level
Official student and peer evaluations
Teaching dossier
References
Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
Ability to work within a team
Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
Active participation in curriculum development
Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation and student assessment
Prompt and accurate marking including on-line activities
Experience coordinating multi-section languages courses
Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
Commitment to responsible time management
Commitment to meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the coordination of courses
Availability for individual consultation with students and Section Coordinator

Responsibilities

Scheduled contact time with students
Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
Working closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator
Proctoring tests and exams
