About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Introductory Italian ITAL 1F00 D1 LEC Section 2, a face-to-face course delivery for the Fall/Winter term. This position is for an existing vacancy within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. The course is scheduled for Mondays from 1900-2200. The nominal hours for a half course are 195, and for a full course are 390. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of Italian studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching of language courses in Italian at the University level
  • Native or near-native fluency in English and Italian
  • Evidence of competence in second-year language courses in Italian at the University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation and student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking including on-line activities
  • Experience coordinating multi-section languages courses
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management
  • Commitment to meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the coordination of courses
  • Availability for individual consultation with students and Section Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Working closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator
  • Proctoring tests and exams
