About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Instructor for Introductory Italian ITAL 1F00 D1 LEC Section 1 for the Fall/Winter term. This is an existing vacancy within the CUPE4207-1 Employee Group. The course delivery mode will be face-to-face. The instructor will be responsible for scheduled contact time with students, preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, course administration, and working closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd) in an area of Italian studies
  • Record of sustained successful teaching language courses in Italian at University level
  • Native or near native fluency in English and Italian
  • Evidence of competence in second-year language courses in Italian at the University level
  • Official student and peer evaluations
  • Teaching dossier
  • References
  • Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Clear comprehension of multi-section teaching
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking including on-line activities
  • Experience coordinating multi-section languages courses
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment
  • Commitment to responsible time management
  • Commitment to meeting the requirements and administrative responsibilities associated with the coordination of courses
  • Availability for individual consultation with students and Section Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Preparation of lectures

  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
  • Work closely with the Italian Studies Program Coordinator
  • First hour of seminar/lab in each course (for 2-hour/week lecture equivalent)
  • Proctoring tests and exams
