About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for VISA 2P04 Figurative Painting Fundamentals. This course focuses on the fundamentals of conceiving and painting the figure, introducing students to the anatomic, narrative, and expressive concepts of the human form. The role involves lectures and studio work, with 4 hours of contact time per week. The department is the Department of Visual Arts – Studio Art, and the delivery method is face-to-face. The schedule is for the Winter Term, Duration 3 (D3), Section 2, on Fridays from 13:30 to 17:30.

Requirements

  • MFA is required.
  • Previous teaching experience of at least two years at the university level is required.
  • Demonstrated background in teaching the practical and theoretical aspects of painting including color theory, the history and techniques of acrylics, and experience instructing from the live model is required.
  • Familiarity with all technical aspects of canvas stretching, basic hand tools, studio safety and wood shop protocols involving the operation of a table and compound saw is required.
  • Record of professional activity and exhibitions in figure painting demonstrative of standing in the arts community is required.
  • Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.
  • All qualifications must be met.
  • All applicable documentation pertaining to any applications must be submitted at the same time with the application.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Preparation of lectures.
  • Student consultation.
  • Marking and grading.
  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course for instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent.
