About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill two existing vacancies for the VISA 2P03 Painting Fundamentals course for the Winter Term (D3). This course is an introduction to colour theory, media, and methods in painting, involving lectures and studio work for 4 hours per week. The Department of Visual Arts – Studio Art will deliver this course face-to-face. Section 1 is scheduled for Mondays from 0900 to 1300, and Section 2 is scheduled for Fridays from 0900 to 1300. Instructors are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course for a 2-hour/week lecture equivalent. Duties and responsibilities align with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement, including scheduled contact time, lecture preparation, student consultation, marking, grading, and course administration.

Requirements

MFA is required.
Previous teaching experience of at least two years at the university level is required.
Demonstrated background in the practical and theoretical aspects of painting including colour theory, the history and techniques of acrylics is required.
Familiarity of all technical aspects of canvas stretching, basic hand tools, studio safety and woodshop protocols involving the operation of a table and compound saw is required.
Record of professional activity and exhibitions in the area of painting, demonstrative of standing in the arts community is required.
Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.
