About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) VISA 1P93 Introduction to Drawing Two positions: Section 1 and 4. This course focuses on the fundamental principles of drawing with an emphasis on observational drawing and the development of perceptual and technical skills. The delivery method is face-to-face, with lectures and studio work, totaling 4 hours per week. The department is the Department of Visual Arts – Studio Art. The schedule is for the Fall Term (Duration 2), with Section 1 running on Fridays from 13:30 to 17:30 and Section 4 running on Fridays from 09:00 to 13:00. Compensation is effective September 1, 2026, with a rate of $7,887.59 per half course (nominally 195 hours) and $15,775.20 per full course (nominally 390 hours). Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture, or equivalent, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • MFA is required.
  • Previous teaching experience of at least two years at the university level is required.
  • Knowledgeable with all instructional approaches to drawing from historical and contemporary applications including observational, figurative, gestural and expressive approaches, and knowledge of current theoretical trends required.
  • A record of professional activity and exhibitions with a focus on drawing demonstrative of standing in the arts community required.
  • Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
