About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) MUSI 1P04 Music Theory Rudiments – Winter (D3). The course covers the basics of musical notation to advanced rudiments, including pitch notation, rhythm notation, meter, key signatures, scales, intervals, chords, terms and signs. It is a lecture-based course with 3 hours per week, delivered in-person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture, or equivalent, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Relevant Doctoral degree in music or equivalent experience.
  • Significant demonstrated experience teaching music theory rudiments, with a proven ability to support student readiness for post-secondary music theory.
  • Ability to design and deliver instruction that supports diverse learning styles, musical backgrounds and levels of ability.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness of teaching through student or peer teaching evaluations, letters of recommendation, or equivalent documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use the BRIGHTSPACE online learning management system or equivalent systems in other institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
