About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for LING 1P01 Winter 2027, AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE II. This is a half course position with an estimated 195 hours of work. Instructors responsible for a 2-hour/week lecture are also responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course. The class will be held face-to-face at the Brock University main campus in St. Catharines. This role is governed by the Collective Agreement for part-time Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Lab Demonstrator, Course Coordinator and Marker-Grader positions at Brock University.

Requirements

  • A relevant doctorate.
  • In the absence of a PhD, a master’s degree with evidence of sufficient background (e.g., course work or thesis focus) in relevant areas may be considered.
  • Evidence of educational background must be provided.
  • Practical experience with American Sign Language as a first or subsequent language.
  • Previous successful academic teaching experience (as instructor responsible for all aspects of the course).
  • Teaching competence (e.g., course evaluations, letters of reference and/or other components of a teaching dossier).

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
