About The Position
Spenard Builders Supply, owned by Builders FirstSource, is seeking a customer-focused Inside Counter Sales employee for its Anchorage, Alaska Millwork location. The role combines product knowledge, sales, and customer service to help customers complete projects such as decks, fences, sheds, and stairs. The employee assists customers from initial product selection through order processing and delivery, while supporting store and yard operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months of sales, retail, customer service, or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work in office and outdoor yard environments with varying weather conditions.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical tasks.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in building materials, home improvement, construction, or related industries.
- Knowledge of estimating materials for residential projects.
- Experience operating material handling equipment, or willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
- Assist retail customers in person, by phone, and by email.
- Answer questions about products, pricing, availability, returns, and exchanges.
- Recommend products and solutions suited to customers' needs and build positive customer relationships.
- Promote and sell company products, services, and related solutions.
- Prepare material estimates and project quotes for smaller construction projects, including decks, fences, stairs, and sheds.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales through product recommendations and add-on offerings.
- Develop knowledge of company products, pricing, and promotions.
- Enter customer orders accurately into company systems.
- Schedule and coordinate deliveries, monitor order details, and follow through on customer requests.
- Assist with inventory management, stocking, merchandising, and signage.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Participate in customer workshops and educational events.
- Resolve routine customer concerns and escalate more complex issues when needed.
