The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is seeking a full-time Identity and Driver Credential Specialist 1 for a Major Service Area customer service center. DDS’s mission is to provide secure driver and identity credentials with excellence and respect. The position serves Georgia residents by processing driver and identity credentials, including learner’s permits, out-of-state license conversions, driver licenses, and identity cards in compliance with state laws and regulations. The role focuses on working with and through others within established guidelines and serving a diverse population with patience, accuracy, efficiency, and strong customer service. In high-volume centers, employees may encounter irate customers, slip-and-fall incidents, road-test crashes, and customers who become ill. The specialist may serve as a team lead to lower-level staff. The position includes accompanying drivers during traditional or virtual driving evaluations, conducting motorcycle and commercial-license examinations, operating visual testing equipment, and collecting payments. Road skills tests take place throughout the year in varied weather, from early morning through early evening, and last approximately 30 minutes. Work involves frequent public and coworker interaction and substantial movement, including walking, standing, climbing into trucks, bending, squatting, lifting, reaching, turning, riding in and driving cars and trucks. The role requires a valid Georgia Class C or equivalent driver’s license, which must be maintained during employment, and successful completion of required examiner certifications. Employees must have flexible work availability because customer service centers have varied hours, and may be asked to assist other centers or perform other agency responsibilities. The advertised annual salary is $32,000, non-negotiable, plus a $3,500 Major Service Area supplement. DDS describes career advancement opportunities, including eligibility to move to Specialist 2 after 18 months, subject to satisfactory performance. The posting states that the supplement may be lost under specified circumstances for employees hired after July 1, 2026.
