HVAC Operations Manager

HR OneLiverpool, NY
$90,000 - $110,000Onsite

About The Position

Peterson Plumbing & Heating, Inc. is seeking an experienced HVAC Operations Manager to oversee and grow our HVAC service and installation division. This is a hands-on management position for an experienced HVAC professional who understands the technical side of the trade but, equally important, can organize people, manage jobs, communicate with customers, and keep the department running efficiently and profitably. This is not a desk-only management position. We need an HVAC professional who can manage the department from the office but also understands what is happening in the mechanical room, on the rooftop, or at the customer's furnace or boiler. The right individual will combine technical HVAC expertise, leadership, organization, customer service, estimating ability, and business accountability. Peterson Plumbing & Heating is an established customer base and an existing HVAC operation. Our goal is to have someone who can take ownership of that division, support our technicians, generate additional residential and commercial HVAC opportunities, and help turn the department into an increasingly productive and profitable part of our company.

Requirements

  • Substantial field experience and be capable of earning the respect of experienced HVAC technicians.
  • Highly knowledgeable in residential and light-commercial HVAC.
  • Strong in boilers and hydronic heating systems.
  • Experienced with forced-air heating and air-conditioning systems.
  • Comfortable with refrigeration, electrical troubleshooting, controls, pumps, zone valves, and related HVAC systems.
  • Capable of estimating and managing both service and installation work.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple jobs simultaneously.
  • Strong with customers and employees.
  • Comfortable holding technicians accountable for productivity and quality.
  • Able to make decisions without requiring constant direction from ownership.
  • Focused on completing jobs, getting paperwork closed out, and getting work billed.
  • Sales-minded without sacrificing customer trust or workmanship.
  • Interested in building and growing an HVAC department rather than simply maintaining one.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the HVAC service and installation department.
  • Supervise, support, and hold HVAC technicians and installers accountable.
  • Coordinate service calls, installations, preventive maintenance, and ongoing projects with our office staff.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to field technicians when necessary.
  • Diagnose and assist with complex HVAC, boiler, hydronic, refrigeration, electrical, and control-system problems.
  • Perform jobsite visits and assist with difficult service situations when required.
  • Estimate HVAC repairs, replacements, and installation projects.
  • Develop scopes of work, equipment selections, labor requirements, and material lists.
  • Follow jobs from the initial customer call or estimate through scheduling, completion, billing, and closeout.
  • Ensure technicians submit complete and accurate paperwork, job notes, equipment information, photos, and invoices promptly.
  • Review completed work for accuracy and profitability.
  • Work closely with our office manager and ownership to maintain an efficient FieldEdge workflow.
  • Maintain strong communication with residential and commercial customers.
  • Handle customer concerns and escalated service issues professionally.
  • Manage and expand preventive-maintenance agreements.
  • Identify opportunities for additional HVAC service, replacement, and installation work.
  • Assist with recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating HVAC personnel.
  • Maintain high standards for workmanship, professionalism, vehicle organization, safety, and customer service.
  • Help ownership develop and execute strategies to grow HVAC revenue and profitability.
