About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in supporting the integrity, efficiency, and compliance of the HR function at Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada, a new plant start-up in Port Colborne, Ontario. This position will be responsible for the execution of core HR processes, contribute to ongoing process improvements, and help maintain a consistent and high-standard employee experience across the organization. This is a new role for the organization, supporting the construction of a new lithium battery separator manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • Experience working with Workday or similar HRIS system.
  • Must be proactive, self-motivated, customer-focused, and solution-oriented.
  • Ability to foster and maintain relationships with employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence and support leaders.
  • Comfortable developing and executing plans, promoting ideas, and implementing initiatives.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Must be proficient in use of MS Office products.
  • Minimum post-secondary education – bachelor’s degree in a human resources related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in human resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with the HRPA preferred.
  • Experience with Workday HRIS system an asset.
  • Hands-on experience or strong exposure to start-up of facilities is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Continue the creation of HR documents such as policies, programs and reporting to support the growing company.
  • Create job descriptions based on company needs and hiring.
  • Create and execute full onboarding program for new hires in collaboration with EHS and department managers.
  • Assist in developing training processes and documentation.
  • Attend local career, job and experience fairs to educate community and education institutions about the company’s future and current job openings.
  • Support current and future business needs through employee engagement and development.
  • Advise and support supervisors and operational leaders on day-to-day employee relations matters.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in accordance with retention and privacy requirements.
  • Complete HR reports, ensuring accuracy and reliability of the data.
  • Contribute to the creation, review and maintenance of HR documents such as policies, forms, and templates.
  • Respond to internal queries regarding HR procedures and assist in providing consistent and clear guidance.
  • Work closely with the recruitment team to help refine and implement strategies that align with business goals locally.
  • Manage the onboarding process and conduct New Hire Orientation with all new employees.
  • Work with the Administration Team on employee engagement and recognition initiatives.
  • Work with the Centre of Expertise at AKA as needed to facilitate HR programs such as administering benefits, reviews, training and compensation analysis.
  • Administer and monitor the Attendance Management Program.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and provide recommendations for resolution, ensuring alignment with company policies and best practices.
  • Prepare counseling and discipline letters and attend discipline meetings in conjunction with leaders.
  • Support ESA leaves and disability processes such as STD and LTD, including employee follow-up and return-to-work coordination.
