About The Position

The Housekeeper provides campus cleaning and minor maintenance services to meet the needs of residents and employees and help keep facilities in good condition. The position performs scheduled cleaning in assigned indoor and outdoor areas according to departmental standards and infection-control guidelines. Duties include maintaining floors, cleaning spills, completing project and deep cleaning, removing trash and recyclables, and supporting resident moves and campus linen services. The Housekeeper also handles minor maintenance tasks, maintains cleaning equipment, reports repair needs, helps receive and store supplies, and assists with snow and ice salting as needed. Weekend availability may be required.

Requirements

• Some high school education.
• Housekeeping and/or general maintenance experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, with residents and staff.
• Dependability, common sense, and ability to organize a daily cleaning schedule and complete assigned work each day.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work within standard policies and procedures with limited direct supervision.
• May require weekend availability.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled cleaning in assigned areas according to departmental standards and infection-control guidelines.
• Complete minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, plunging toilets, and replacing batteries.
• Maintain floors by sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, extracting, hosting, and buffing as scheduled or assigned.
• Clean emergency spills that are observed or reported.
• Perform project cleaning, including walls, ceilings, vents, light fixtures, and windows.
• Remove trash and recyclables from collection points, public areas, and outside entrance areas; transport them to designated pickup areas and replace liners as needed.
• Deep-clean rooms or units following transfers or discharges.
• Move furniture and assist with resident moves during transfers or discharges.
• Participate in the campus linen program by distributing, collecting, counting, and preparing linen for pickup, and handling incoming linen.
• Make beds in guest rooms or residences as needed.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and repair it or report repair needs as appropriate.
• Observe and report the need for repairs to facilities, furniture, and fixtures.
• Assist with receiving campus supplies and deliveries and putting supplies away as needed.
• Participate in campus snow and ice salting as needed.
