About The Position

The Host works on the Cafe/Restaurant team at the American Girl New York City retail store and restaurant, delivering an outstanding dining experience to guests. The role greets and seats guests, manages reservations and waitlists, and coordinates with the restaurant team. It calls for someone who can thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle challenging service situations with sound judgment and a positive, professional demeanor. This is a seasonal, part-time position with a flexible schedule, including availability on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Requirements

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Must have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday availability.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a restaurant host, hotel concierge, or in a related customer service position.
Computer skills, including restaurant reservation and POS systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and use of basic office equipment such as copiers and fax machines.
Experience working with children.

Responsibilities

Greet guests promptly and seat them in a timely manner by maintaining accurate waitlists and maximizing seating capacity.
Manage large crowds professionally and resolve challenging service situations diplomatically.
Create and maintain a pleasant ambiance in dining and party rooms through lighting, music, and table placement.
Communicate accurate dining and party room setups, special requests, and birthday information to the restaurant team.
Share information about store and restaurant events with guests.
Use Zomato reservation and InfoGenesis register systems, along with Microsoft Office, to perform job functions.
Initiate training opportunities with restaurant staff.
Assist restaurant staff as needed to provide an outstanding dining experience.
