About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and families in Toms River, Brick Township, Freehold, Manchester Township, the Jersey Shore area, and the surrounding metropolitan area of New Jersey. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, where families can be present in familiar surroundings. The role emphasizes attentive, unhurried visits, thoughtful conversations with families, and dignified end-of-life care. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. Schedules are available for two to five days per week, including self-managed part-time options. Compensation is guaranteed and prorated according to the selected schedule, with stated ranges of $70,000 to $145,000 and quarterly bonus opportunities for full-time schedules. There is no non-compete agreement. Weekend days are selected by the veterinarian, with four weekend days per month.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD, or BVMS).
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Spend time with families, answer questions, and help them make end-of-life decisions and say goodbye with dignity.
Travel independently to appointments in the assigned service area.
Choose four weekend days per month to work, planning them around personal commitments.
