About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Joliet, Kankakee, New Lenox, Plainfield, Illinois, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is provided in pets’ homes, with appointments designed to allow time to listen, explain options, and help families say goodbye with dignity and peace. Veterinarians practice independently while traveling, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. The role offers schedule options ranging from two days per week to full-time, including self-managed scheduling. Five-day and four-day full-time options include a guaranteed salary and quarterly bonus opportunities; two- and three-day options include prorated compensation, with self-managed part-time scheduling also available. Guaranteed compensation ranges from $45,000 to $125,000 depending on schedule. Weekend work is arranged by choosing four weekend days per month rather than following a fixed rotation. Heartstrings does not require a non-compete agreement.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or BVMS degree.
Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care in clients’ homes.
Spend time with families, answer questions, and support them through end-of-life decisions and goodbyes.
Practice independently while traveling to serve families and pets.
