•$65,000 - $145,000•Onsite

About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Hartford, Glastonbury, Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, and the surrounding metropolitan area of Connecticut. Care is delivered in the home, where pets feel safest, and is intended to give families time, guidance, and support during end-of-life visits. The role emphasizes unhurried appointments, compassionate communication, and dignified goodbyes rather than the pace of a traditional clinic. The veterinarian practices independently while traveling to appointments, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and experienced colleagues available for support. Scheduling options range from two days per week to five days per week, with self-managed scheduling available for some part-time options. Full-time compensation includes a guaranteed salary and quarterly bonus opportunities; compensation is prorated for schedules based on two or three days per week. The stated guaranteed compensation range is $65,000 to $145,000, depending on schedule. Veterinarians choose four weekend days per month rather than following a fixed weekend rotation. Candidates complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before starting.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or BVMS degree.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
  • Listen to families, answer difficult questions compassionately, and help them say goodbye with dignity and peace.

  • Support families through end-of-life care with time and attention for each pet and family.

Benefits

  • Guaranteed base salary with no negative accrual.
  • Generous quarterly bonus opportunities.
  • 401(k).
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and family.
  • Up to $2,000 in annual continuing education allowance.
  • Comprehensive onsite mentorship.
  • Life insurance.
  • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
  • Accident and other insurance.
  • No non-compete agreement.
