About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a compassionate veterinarian to provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets and their families in Hartford, Glastonbury, Farmington, Avon, Simsbury, Connecticut, and the surrounding metropolitan area. Care is delivered in pets’ homes, where veterinarians have time to listen, answer questions, and help families say goodbye with dignity and peace. The role involves independent mobile practice, with onboarding, one-on-one mentorship, and support from experienced colleagues. Schedules are available for two to five days per week, including full-time and self-managed part-time options. Compensation is guaranteed and prorated according to schedule, with quarterly bonus opportunities. The posting describes the position as having no non-compete agreement. Weekend days are chosen by the veterinarian: four weekend days per month, rather than a fixed rotation.

Requirements

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), VMD, or BVMS degree.
Valid U.S. driver's license.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 90 pounds with assistance.
Complete license verification, a background check, and a driving record review before the start date.

Responsibilities

Provide hospice and in-home euthanasia care to pets in their homes.
Support families through end-of-life decisions and goodbyes by listening, explaining, and providing compassionate care.
Practice independently while traveling to appointments in the service area.
Choose four weekend days per month to work, coordinating them with personal plans.
