About The Position
WM is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator I to work at its material recycling facility in Topeka, Kansas. The position operates heavy machinery, including bulldozers, scrapers, and front-end loaders, to support recycling facility operations. Operators follow safety and operating procedures, inspect and maintain equipment, and move raw materials and finished components. The role offers stable weekday hours, with occasional weekend work, and includes a starting rate of $23–$26 per hour depending on experience, plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus and benefits. The normal setting is a shop or field environment, with frequent exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment.
- Be over 18 years of age.
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Ability to work independently, take accountability for following safety guidelines, communicate well with colleagues, and problem-solve independently.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment in compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance, and maintain accurate records.
- Move and position raw materials and finished components using material-moving equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures for operating and maintaining vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
