Head of Product

Neural Earth
•$220,000 - $295,000

About The Position

Neural Earth is hiring a Head of Product to own the property insurance roadmap for Prometheus, its decision intelligence platform for property and casualty carriers. You will determine which underwriting, accumulation, and portfolio problems the product addresses next, connect roadmap priorities to carrier and market evidence, and demonstrate each release within carriers’ workflows. You will own product decisions and quantified outcomes, but will not write production code or manage engineers; Engineering owns capacity, staffing, and sequencing, with the Head of Product and Head of Engineering meeting weekly on tradeoffs. You will build and lead the Product team as Prometheus scales, defining needed roles and partners, hiring and developing team members, and establishing standards for product specifications, validation, and handoffs to Engineering. You will translate carrier workflows into buildable, testable requirements and collaborate with Sales on discovery, demonstrations, and diligence. Sales owns pipeline, pricing, and closing; you own product delivery against what was sold. The role also owns insurance model governance. You will decide whether models are fit for carrier and regulatory use and sign off on that determination. Responsibilities include maintaining the model inventory, validation sign-offs, documentation packs, change log, the in-platform AI systems use policy for underwriting, and responses to carrier and regulator inquiries. The position is expected to keep unvalidated model changes out of production and establish pilot acceptance criteria with carriers before build, then measure adoption and decision impact after launch. The role reports to the CEO. Occasional travel of approximately 20% may be needed.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of product management experience.
  • At least four owned products used by insurance underwriting, actuarial, risk management, or claims teams.
  • Experience shipping geospatial, machine learning, or data API products.
  • Property insurance product experience at a carrier, MGA, or reinsurer, with products in production.
  • Core-team experience on at least one property insurance product through multiple release cycles, with evidence that adoption or commercial results improved across iterations.
  • Ability to accommodate occasional travel as needed, approximately 20%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience across property insurance underwriting, pricing, portfolio management, or catastrophe exposure, including the workflow from submission through bind and renewal.
  • Knowledge of property risk and catastrophe modeling, including hazard and vulnerability, AAL and PML, accumulation and treaty limits, and carrier integrations with policy administration and rating systems such as Guidewire and Duck Creek.
  • Experience with model governance, including documentation, independent validation, and change control, and familiarity with regulatory expectations for insurers’ use of models, data, and AI.
  • Understanding of geospatial and AI product engineering, including parcel and geocoding accuracy, raster and vector data, spatial indexing such as H3, imagery-derived attributes, model training and validation, and API delivery.
  • Experience taking a product from first release through multiple iterations to scaled adoption and explaining how customer and market evidence improved results.
  • Experience building and leading product teams, hiring product managers and specialists from global talent pools, and developing them into leaders.
  • Regularly engaging underwriters, actuaries, and catastrophe managers and distinguishing carrier requests from needs they will pay for and use.
  • Ability to write precise PRDs with acceptance criteria that engineers can test and carriers can sign.
  • Ability to protect a shared platform, assess one-off carrier requests against market needs, and decline requests with written reasons.
  • Ability to make and revisit decisions with incomplete information, state assumptions and review dates, and communicate bad news early with an owner and date.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Prometheus property insurance roadmap across underwriting, accumulation, and portfolio workflows and the modules that serve them.
  • Tie roadmap items to named carrier and market evidence, maintain a defensible ranked order, and reduce carrier request-to-ship time quarter over quarter.
  • Translate carrier workflows into PRDs, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements that Engineering can build and test without rework.
  • Prove releases in carrier workflows by setting pilot acceptance criteria before build and measuring adoption and decision impact after launch.
  • Partner with Sales on discovery, demonstrations, and diligence while owning whether the product delivers what was sold.
  • Drive pilot acceptance and expansion of product modules by carriers.
  • Own model governance for insurance, including model inventory, validation sign-off, documentation packs, change log, the in-platform AI systems use policy for underwriting, and responses to carrier and regulator inquiries.
  • Keep unvalidated model changes out of production and have model documentation ready before carriers request it.
  • Define Product team roles and partners, hire and develop team members, and establish standards for product specification, validation, and handoff to Engineering.
  • Build a Product team able to deliver on committed dates and make sound decisions independently.

Benefits

  • Company performance-based cash bonuses.
  • Majority employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their dependents.
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Company-paid group life insurance at 2x base salary.
