About The Position

Instrumentl is hiring a Head of Product to lead its product managers as the company develops an AI-native operating system for grant-funded organizations. Reporting to co-founder Angela Braren, this leader will advance products built by the founders from early development through launch, customer adoption, and continuous improvement. The role combines hands-on ownership of a core product area—likely the GrantOS platform—with growing and developing the product team at an early, profitable company. The Head of Product will represent customer needs, shape product strategy and roadmaps, and improve product delivery speed while maintaining quality. The role involves prototyping and building with engineering and design, helping develop production-ready AI agents and quality evaluation practices, and partnering across the organization on shared platform capabilities. Candidates must be based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The role is in the office about once a week and includes about 25% travel.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience.
  • Experience owning an entire product or most of a core product end to end in B2B SaaS.
  • Track record of taking a product from 0 to 1 and scaling it, with customer or business results to demonstrate impact.
  • Hands-on product-building experience, including prototyping, writing specifications, and shipping products personally.
  • Experience managing and developing product managers, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Track record of setting strategy across multiple product areas, making investment tradeoffs, and delivering measurable customer and business outcomes.
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Nice To Haves

  • Founder or founding product manager experience.
  • Experience shipping AI- or LLM-powered features in production, including evaluations and methods to measure output quality.
  • Experience building platform or system-of-record products that other teams depend on.
  • Vertical SaaS experience, especially serving nonprofit, government, or compliance-heavy customers.
  • Experience with both product-led and sales-led growth.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the voice of the customer and develop product managers to do the same.
  • Own customer outcomes and account engagement across product areas.
  • Lead early products from founders through launch, broader customer adoption, and ongoing improvement.
  • Engage directly with customers through calls, site visits, and conferences, and use insights to inform product decisions.
  • Scope and sequence work by identifying a smallest viable end-to-end version, shipping it, and iterating.
  • Personally own a core product area, likely the GrantOS platform, from roadmap through shipped work.
  • Prototype and build alongside engineering and design, using AI tools to move quickly from ideas to working products.
  • Help build effective agents, including evaluation loops, golden datasets, and clear measures of output quality.
  • Lead, develop, hire, coach, and manage the performance of product managers.
  • Establish clear principles for product decisions and shipping.
  • Increase product velocity while maintaining quality and helping the team adopt AI-native ways of working.
  • Partner with co-founders to translate company product vision into an executable organization-wide roadmap.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, sales, and customer success to deliver cross-team work, especially shared platform capabilities.
  • Set strategy across multiple product areas, make investment tradeoffs, and deliver measurable customer and business outcomes.

  • 100% covered health, dental, and vision insurance for employees; 50% coverage for dependents.
  • Generous paid time off, including parental leave.
  • 401(k).
  • Company laptop and home-office stipend.
