About The Position

The Head Cashier provides customer service and supports front-end store operations. The role assists customers with finding and selecting merchandise, answers questions, and shares product, stock, ordering, warranty, and pricing information. It also coaches and trains front-end associates; processes transactions, returns, and refunds; supports checkout coverage; and performs register preparation, cash handling, and reconciliation duties. The position helps maintain store security, cleanliness, organization, and safety. Duties include monitoring store entrances and exits, responding to security concerns, inspecting returned merchandise, following housekeeping and safety procedures, and operating store equipment as needed. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience in lieu of the education requirement, if applicable.
Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
Less than 1 year of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
1 year of retail cashier experience.
Ability to obtain sales-related licensure or registration as required by law.

Nice To Haves

1 year of experience identifying and selling products based on customer needs, including credit cards, installations, add-on sales, protection plans, and explaining warranties, product features, and benefits.
1 year of experience as a head cashier.
Less than 1 year of experience working in any department at a Lowe’s retail store.
1 year of supervisory experience in any field, including directing, delegating, evaluating, training, and coaching employees.
Less than 1 year of retail experience detecting common signs of shoplifting, such as merchandise hidden inside containers, merchandise under carts, or switched price labels.

Responsibilities

Provide SMART customer service in accordance with Lowe’s customer service policies, procedures, and programs.
Identify customer needs and assist with locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and loading merchandise.
Answer customer and employee questions promptly and knowledgeably, including walking customers through projects when needed.
Communicate information about stock, special orders, product features, applications, warranties, and Lowe’s programs.
Coach, develop, provide feedback to, and train front-end associates in departmental duties and sales opportunities.
Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using a cash register according to company guidelines.
Provide monetary change to front-end associates for register activities.
Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise.
Help manage checkout lines and open additional registers when necessary to maintain coverage.
Prepare register areas at the beginning and end of shifts by checking registers and scanners and stocking supplies.
Inspect returned merchandise for damage.
Enter and submit customer orders, print order tickets, verify receipts, and sign off on loading tickets.
Look up product information and competitor prices to verify price matches.
Record store-use items on store-use lists.
Complete cash counting and daily reconciliation duties as assigned.
Monitor cash drawer and cash recycler levels to ensure they remain within required limits.
Monitor merchandise entering and leaving store entrances and exits, and assist customers or associates who trigger alarms.
Identify common signs of shoplifting, theft, and other security risks and promptly communicate them to management or Asset Protection.
Follow housekeeping standards and programs, including Zone Recovery, to maintain cleanliness and organization.
Maintain a safe and secure work environment by conducting daily safety reviews as applicable, noting hazards, keeping aisles clear, and securing doors and gates.
Follow applicable safety requirements, including those for top stock, safety cables, aisle blockers, power equipment tether lines, spotters, and safety devices.
Operate store equipment as needed for the role and department.
Perform other duties as assigned.
