About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point into a career in construction and maintenance of the nation's power grid. The employee assists the team with building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. The work includes outdoor job sites and may involve travel, out-of-state assignments, emergency response, and overtime.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Ability to stand and walk frequently; handle objects and operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Ability to work safely around fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibration, loud noise, and extreme job-site conditions.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation and pulling equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, and excavators.
Follow safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE and understand when PPE must be worn.
Perform rigorous physical labor.
Work outdoors in changing and extreme weather conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
