About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in the construction and maintenance of the nation’s power grid. The role assists a team with building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman. Work is performed at construction job sites and may involve out-of-state assignments, outages, storms, and emergencies. The employee works outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and storm conditions, and performs rigorous physical labor.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor and the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repairs on underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation and pulling equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, and excavators.
Follow safety protocols, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand insulated protective covers used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and PPE and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including participating in an on-call rotation.
Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Travel to job locations, including long-distance and out-of-state assignments, as needed.
