About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in the construction, repair, and maintenance of underground electrical distribution systems. This is an entry step toward a career in power-grid construction and maintenance. The position performs physical labor outdoors and prioritizes safety while working at construction job sites and during varying or extreme weather conditions. The Groundman reports to the Foreman.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Able to perform rigorous physical labor and the physical activities described, including standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching.
• Understand when to wear PPE and follow safety protocols, including using insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, use PPE and insulated protective cover appropriately, and inspect rubber goods and PPE.
• Work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
• Be available for outage, storm, and emergency work, including on-call rotation.
• Travel to job locations, including extended and out-of-state assignments.
• Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
