About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point into construction and maintenance of the power grid. The employee assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems and reports to the Foreman.

The role involves work at construction job sites and outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and storms. Employees may work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments, and may be called upon for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations. The work includes rigorous physical labor and compliance with safety protocols and the use and inspection of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• Able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Able to meet the physical demands of standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, use PPE, and understand insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment, and understand when PPE must be worn.
• Work outages, storms, and emergencies, including on-call rotations.
• Communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
• Perform rigorous physical labor, including handling, operating, and reaching for tools or controls.
