About The Position

The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems. This entry-level role is a first step toward a career in the construction and maintenance of the power grid and reports to the Foreman.

The work involves underground distribution construction and maintenance, installation and repair of underground facilities and conductors, and upkeep of excavation and pulling equipment. The role requires outdoor work in varied and sometimes extreme weather, availability for outages and emergencies, rigorous physical labor, and consistent adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Requirements

• Hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
• Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Be able to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
• Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
• Be able to perform rigorous physical labor.
• Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
• Be able to stand, walk, handle objects, operate tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

• Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
• Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
• Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
• Follow safety protocols, use PPE, and understand insulated protective cover for isolating differences of potential.
• Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Understand when to wear personal protective equipment.
• Work outdoors in varying conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
• Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
