About The Position

The Groundman is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the power grid. This role assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining underground electrical distribution systems, reporting to the Foreman. The work involves outdoor construction-site conditions and rigorous physical labor, with a strong emphasis on safety and proper use of personal protective equipment. The position may require travel, extended assignments away from home, emergency callouts, and work outside normal business hours.

Requirements

Hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a CDL within 60 days.
Be willing to travel long distances on short notice.
Be able to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Be willing to work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Be willing to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Be able to communicate by talking, listening, and using hand signals.
Be able to stand and walk frequently; use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

Build, maintain, and repair underground electrical distribution systems, prioritizing safety.
Assist with installing and repairing underground facilities, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain excavation equipment, including backhoes, trenchers, excavators, and pulling equipment.
Follow safety protocols, use PPE, and understand how insulated protective cover isolates differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
