About The Position

The Grocery Floor Clerk provides efficient, accurate, safe, and courteous customer service while processing customer orders. The role maintains a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere, operates check-stand equipment, handles monetary transactions, and stocks, prices, and rotates merchandise. Employees generally work 6–8 hour shifts scheduled between 4:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. in a 24/7 operation. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Be at least 16 years of age.
Be able to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Maintain friendly, courteous, and tactful relationships with customers and coworkers, with composure.
Have the hearing, speech, and communication abilities needed to perform customer-relations duties.
Complete written forms and visually inspect and read information on merchandise.
Frequently lift and maneuver objects of varying sizes and weights up to 20 pounds and perform repetitive work accurately; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Operate check-stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
Stand for long periods and walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for extended periods.
Have manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
Learn and memorize information including PLU codes, product locations, check-stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies.
Record sales accurately and handle monetary transactions using mental alertness and basic math skills.
Climb and balance on ladders while stocking shelves.
Use blades for box cutting.
Work in a cooler and freezer and use household cleaners to maintain the work area.
Work in varying weather conditions when performing outdoor duties.
Hold a Food Handlers Certification as required by state law.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while providing friendly and courteous service.
Operate check-stand equipment, including cash registers, scanners, and scales, to process customer orders.
Use suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
Process cash and other monetary transactions, including checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds.
Maintain knowledge of product locations, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing.
Keep the check stand clean, neat, properly stocked, and safe and secure.
Stock, price, and rotate merchandise.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
