About The Position

The Grocery Floor Clerk provides customer service by processing customer orders efficiently, accurately, safely, and courteously. The role maintains a friendly, enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere for internal and external customers and performs other related work. Shifts are generally 6–8 hours and may fall between 4:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. The position involves operating check-stand equipment, processing customer payments, maintaining product and pricing knowledge, stocking and rotating merchandise, and keeping the work area clean, stocked, and secure. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age.
Food Handlers Certification, as required by state laws.
Ability to work varied shifts in a 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to interact with customers and co-workers in a friendly, courteous, and tactful manner while maintaining composure.
Ability to communicate through hearing and speech for customer relations and to complete written forms.
Ability to visually inspect and read information on merchandise.
Ability to frequently lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs., perform repetitive work accurately, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to operate check-stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.
Ability to stand for long periods and walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
Ability to learn and memorize information, including PLU codes, product locations, check-stand and keyboard procedures, and company policies.
Accuracy in recording sales and handling monetary transactions, with mental alertness and basic math skills.
Ability to climb and balance on ladders while stocking shelves.
Ability to use blades for box cutting.
Ability to work in a cooler and freezer, use household cleaners to maintain the work area, and work in varying weather conditions for outdoor duties.
Ability to perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

Welcome, engage, serve, and thank customers while providing friendly, courteous, and fast customer service.
Operate check-stand equipment, including cash registers, scanners, and scales, to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers.
Use suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
Process monetary transactions, including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, coupons, and refunds.
Maintain knowledge of product locations, monitor UPC codes, and ensure proper pricing.
Keep the check stand clean, neat, properly stocked, and safe and secure.
Stock, price, and rotate merchandise.
Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
