GROCERY/DEPT LEADER
About The Position
The Grocery/Dept Leader directs and supervises department functions and supports the day-to-day grocery operations. The role focuses on creating an outstanding customer experience, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and encouraging associates to deliver excellent service through the Customer 1st strategy. The leader demonstrates the company's values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position oversees inventory, ordering, pricing, promotions, expenses, scheduling, and associate development. It also supports store management with budgeting and financial reviews, ensures compliance with food safety requirements and applicable laws, and helps the department meet company and store goals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Any management experience.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

- Ability to act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.

Responsibilities
- Follow food safety regulations and guidelines, maintain proper case and cooler temperatures, and keep temperature logs.
- Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Train department associates in inventory, stocking, and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
- Plan, organize, and supervise the inventory process.
- Schedule daily, weekly, and monthly price changes by updating shelf tags and promotional signs.
- Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
- Assist store management with department budgets and profit-and-loss reviews, and take appropriate action based on financial reports.
- Monitor and control department expenses.
- Stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements and implement the department's periodic promotional plan.
- Prepare and submit seasonal critiques for the sales and merchandising supervisor.
- Create and execute sales promotions with store management.
- Understand the store layout and locate products; maintain product knowledge to answer questions and make suggestions.
- Follow local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
- Train and develop associates and participate in performance appraisals.
- Develop schedules that manage customer volume throughout operating hours.
- Collaborate with associates, promote teamwork, and help achieve company and store goals.
- Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
- Supervise and coach direct reports, complete performance reviews, and provide feedback.
- Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment; manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
- Act honestly and with integrity when handling customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance as needed to resolve issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
