About The Position

The Grocery Clerk stocks, rotates, and faces grocery products while providing exceptional customer service and contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment. The role helps prepare the Grocery department for opening and closing, assists customers with product choices and recommendations, and maintains product presentation, quality, pricing, organization, and cleanliness. The position may also involve receiving merchandise, completing special orders, participating in inventories and ordering, and supporting other store tasks as assigned. The schedule is informed by business needs and may change seasonally or because of staffing needs. The store operates seven days a week, year-round, and shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position is listed as 25 hours, with availability required between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The work takes place in a grocery store environment and involves frequent standing and walking, regular use of hands and wrists, and occasional climbing. The position has medium physical demands, including occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and frequent lifting or carrying of up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

Basic math or computation skills.
Ability to read, understand, and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings or certifications.
Reliable and predictable attendance in accordance with the attendance policy and applicable laws.
Ability to meet the position's physical demands, including frequent standing and walking, frequent use of hands and wrists, occasional climbing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds or frequent lifting or carrying of up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Prepare the Grocery department for store opening and closing.
Assist customers with product selection, share product knowledge, and make recommendations based on customer needs.
Stock, rotate, and face products while attending to product quality and expiration dates.
Build displays and arrange products to create attractive presentations featuring featured, unique, or seasonal items.
Complete customer special orders and follow through as needed.
Receive and unload merchandise; check its quality, count, and condition, and communicate issues to management and the merchandising team.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and rotation of department areas, products, and supplies.
Maintain accurate pricing and signage in accordance with merchandising standards.
Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
Follow shift-specific guidelines, tasks, and responsibilities; participate in inventories and ordering as needed.
Stay informed about current advertisements, promotions, holidays, and events, and continue learning about department products.
Notify the department manager or Manager On Duty about customer service, safety, productivity, security, or other situations that could adversely affect the store.
Contribute to store cleanliness and maintain equipment.
Follow company policies and applicable work and food safety requirements; complete and maintain required safety trainings or certifications.
Work cooperatively with team members, customers, and vendors; contribute to an inclusive and respectful workplace and respond constructively to feedback.
Conserve company resources and work consistently with company values, mission, vision, and sustainability program.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
