About The Position

LECO is hiring a Glass Shop Technician for its Glass Shop in Saint Joseph, Michigan. The technician will learn all aspects of the glass-blowing trade and how to work with Borosilicate and Quartz glass. The role involves fabricating and preparing glassware and support parts using bench work and shop machinery, following work orders, route sheets, engineering drawings, and documented quality procedures. The work environment may be warmer than average. Most products handled weigh five pounds or less, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Shop safety procedures.
• Equipment usage.
• Ability to read engineering drawings.
• Understanding of D-22 Process Sheets.
• Ability to read calipers and gauges.
• Knowledge of decimal and metric measurement systems.
• Glass-working procedures.
• Quality processes.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with and follow documented procedures in the quality system.
• Fabricate or prepare glassware and support parts on the bench and using machinery such as saws, lathes, and drill presses, sometimes using fuel-gas torches and burners, according to work orders, route sheets, and engineering drawings.
• Inspect own work.
• Inspect and package all goods manufactured in the D-22 Glass Shop.
• Complete the transfer of finished goods.
• Handle materials and perform inventory transactions on a mainframe computer terminal.
• May perform training duties.
• Work independently with a minimum of supervision.
• Perform other duties as required.
