About The Position

LECO’s Glass Shop is seeking a Glass Shop Technician to learn and perform glass fabrication work at its Global Support Building in Saint Joseph, Michigan. The successful candidate will follow verbal instructions and procedures, communicate effectively, and learn the glass-blowing trade, including working with borosilicate and quartz glass. The role involves learning to use glass-shop equipment and tools, including a wet saw, hydrogen, natural gas and oxygen, a computerized glass auto lathe, a laser cutting machine, a drill press, a manual glass lathe, burners, hand torches, and bench-work equipment. The work environment may be warmer than average. Most products handled weigh five pounds or less, with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.

This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional overtime is required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of shop safety procedures.
• Knowledge of equipment usage.
• Ability to read engineering drawings (blueprints).
• Understanding of D-22 Process Sheets.
• Ability to read calipers and gauges.
• Knowledge of decimal and metric measurement systems.
• Knowledge of glass-working procedures.
• Knowledge of quality processes.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and procedures and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with and follow documented procedures in the quality system.
• Fabricate or prepare glassware items and support parts at the bench and using machinery such as saws, lathes, and drill presses; sometimes use fuel-gas torches and burners, following work orders, route sheets, and engineering drawings.
• Inspect own work.
• Inspect and package all goods manufactured in the D-22 Glass Shop.
• Complete the transfer of finished goods.
• Handle materials and perform inventory transactions on a mainframe computer terminal.
• May perform training duties.
• Work independently with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as required.
