About The Position

Clifford Power Systems, Inc. is seeking a qualified candidate for a position as a Generator Field Service Technician in the Houston area. This role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, a problem solver, and enjoys fixing things. While prior experience in power generation is not required, the company offers training to develop individuals with a good understanding of how things work into skilled Generator Technicians. The position involves working with diesel, natural gas, or propane engines, as well as various A/C power systems (120/240v single phase to 277/480v three phase) and D/C controls (12v to 24v). Technicians use a laptop to interface with control software and manage their schedules and job tasks electronically via a Mobile Technician Application. Daily activities include checking schedules, traveling to job sites in a company-provided service truck, performing planned maintenance inspections, engine services, quoted repairs, emergency trouble calls, and commissioning new generator installations. Paperwork and electronic submissions are finalized at the end of each task.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • 2 years of experience with diesel and/or natural gas engines, generators, and automatic transfer switches
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Motivated to participate in training to increase generator knowledge
  • Common hand tools and electrical meter required to perform troubleshooting, repair and maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service above and beyond the customer’s expectations
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose engine and electrical repairs on power generation equipment (engine-driven generators and automatic transfer switches)
  • Perform work on power generation equipment located at customer sites, or occasional work at our local shop
  • Use safe practices with operation of service truck
  • Perform preventive maintenance on power generation equipment
  • Perform start-ups on new power generation equipment
  • Perform warranty work on power generation equipment
  • Process required paperwork and electronic submissions within deadlines
  • Maintain parts inventory of service truck
  • Participate in the rotating responsibility of a 24/7 on-call technician rotation
