About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, and refilling dispensers as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors using the "S" stroke method, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks for hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, including high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring to others, reporting broken items, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
