About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks in various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service skills, ensuring a friendly and helpful demeanor towards customers and reporting any issues to the supervisor. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, potentially including floor care such as stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting, auto scrubbing, and buffing.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in the operation of equipment and tool use.
Requires sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working counter-clockwise around rooms and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including sinks, toilets (inside and out), and refilling soap and paper dispensers.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping down benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, and process dirty trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the exit.
Conduct self-inspections after cleaning to ensure all steps are completed and furniture is correctly placed.
Perform daily cleaning tasks for halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Engage in customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, helpful, and reporting any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and stay within the assigned work area unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care and carpet cleaning.
