About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks in various areas, including dusting, sanitizing, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires good customer relations and adherence to safety practices.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.

  • Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working counter clockwise around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
  • Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets (inside and out), and dispensers, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using the "S" stroke method, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care duties, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
  • Maintain public common areas by dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting for cobwebs.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, and cleaning trash cans.
  • Process dirty trays using a tray power washer and stacking clean trays.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and working towards the exit.
  • Conduct self-inspections after cleaning rooms, reviewing steps, and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks for halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and courteous, answering questions, reporting issues to supervisors, working quietly, and maintaining a neat personal appearance.
  • Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction, bonneting), auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
