About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary, and orderly, along with other tasks related to the assigned area. Work includes cleaning interior spaces, bathrooms, floors, public common areas, food courts, and exterior grounds; using appropriate cleaning solutions and janitorial equipment; and maintaining customer service standards. The cleaner inspects completed work, corrects issues as needed, reports broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor, and performs other duties assigned or directed by a supervisor and/or Account Manager. Additional duties may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices and the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals according to MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and interpret cleaning-chemical instructions and warning labels.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to maintain the physical condition needed to perform the assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods; lifting or carrying 1–30 lbs.; pushing and pulling with both hands and arms using 5–35 lbs. of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching overhead, and handling and grasping equipment and tools.
Ability to use sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment safely.

Responsibilities

High-dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, ledges, and window areas.
Sanitize and spot-clean surfaces, remove fingerprints and smudges, and spot-clean windows using appropriate solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, wipe them when needed, and replace liners.
Dust or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and clean mopheads and dispose of collected dust.
Clean and inspect exterior grounds, including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, parking lots, and outdoor eating areas; remove litter, cigarette butts, spills, and gum.
Maintain public common areas by dust-mopping and spot-mopping hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and checking corners and edges for debris and cobwebs.
Clean and sanitize food-court tables, return chairs under tables, empty trash cans, collect dirty trays, wash trays using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for reuse.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, including under furniture and behind doors.
Inspect completed rooms, review cleaning steps, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture; perform wall spotting and high dusting daily.
Provide courteous customer service, answer questions or refer customers to someone who can help, and report broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor.
Work quietly, remain in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintain a neat personal appearance, and report incomplete assignments to a supervisor at shift end.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed, potentially including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.
