Game Day Lead (Boston)

Brodie Rec League•Boston, MA
•$22 - $28•Onsite

About The Position

The Game Day Lead owns game-night floor operations so the League Manager can focus on athletes, captains, fans, and league growth. The role ensures the gym is set up to the site map, streams are operating on every court, staff roles are covered, and the crew meets Brodie League standards. The Lead assigns and checks work, develops staff through coaching and shadow shifts, and encourages staff to resolve operational issues rather than taking over their tasks. When the League Manager is off-site, the Game Day Lead is in charge of league-night operations and the crew, including supporting drop-in athletes and helping convert them into league-night athletes. The role reports to the League Manager and is described as a direct path to that position. Work takes place on game nights at the assigned Boston-area location, on site for the full night.

Requirements

  • At least one year leading or supervising people in events, hospitality, retail, fitness, or sports operations, such as as a shift lead, supervisor, or head coach.
  • Experience teaching someone a task and holding them accountable to it.
  • Ability to upsell or ask for a sale.
  • Comfort with technology setup, including cameras, laptops, Wi-Fi, and streaming apps, and ability to troubleshoot before seeking help.
  • Calm under pressure and able to correct someone directly without making it personal.
  • Availability for every game night at the assigned location, roughly 6 p.m. to midnight, including weekends, and ability to be on site for the full night.
  • A genuine relationship with basketball through playing, coaching, refereeing, or organizing.
  • Reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the gym with the crew according to the site map, assign named staff to tasks, verify setup against the checklist, and sign off before the Launch Meeting.
  • Lead gym breakdown, count equipment, pack fixtures, and leave the venue as expected.
  • Verify BallerTV streams are live on every court before the first game, monitor them during the night, ensure operators restore dropped streams, and log issues.
  • Assign roles and rotations for Game Day Operators, Referees, Athlete Highlight Specialists, and media staff; redeploy staff when there are forfeits or no-shows and keep check-in staffed and moving.
  • Address overdue athlete balances before play and escalate issues that are not easy to resolve to the League Manager.
  • Keep games starting on time and notify the League Manager in advance if a game is expected to start late.
  • Take charge of league-night operations and the crew when the League Manager is off-site, make forfeit calls for absent teams, and send unneeded idle staff home.
  • Document recurring staff performance issues and escalate them to the League Manager for a decision.
  • Teach staff tasks by demonstrating, observing, and checking their work; enforce standards for uniforms, positions, focus, branding, and phone use; coach repeated mistakes, document and escalate them as specified, give each staffer nightly feedback, and run shadow shifts for new crew.
  • Complete scoresheets and photo verification and deliver them to the League Manager so reporting is completed within four hours of the final game.
  • Confirm staff hours match the people who worked and send an end-of-night crew report covering performance, issues, and fixes.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for operational questions from crew and venue staff; settle disputes when possible and involve the League Manager for disputes beyond the Lead's authority, injuries, venue conflicts, or captain complaints.
  • Connect with drop-in athletes and support a positive experience that can convert them into league-night athletes when the League Manager is off-site.
