Game Day Operator (Seattle)

Brodie Rec League•Seattle, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Game Day Operator runs the court and welcomes athletes on game nights. Depending on the Game Day Lead’s assignment, the operator works at the score table, check-in, or on the floor helping set up the gym. The role is responsible for keeping games accurate, on time, and on stream, while ensuring athletes feel welcomed throughout the night. The League Manager hires, schedules, and develops the operator; the Game Day Lead trains and leads them on the floor. The role can provide a path into floor leadership. The operator runs the scoreboard, clock, BallerTV stream, and scoresheet; handles check-in and athlete questions when assigned; helps ensure games are fair and on schedule; sets up and breaks down the gym; and responds to issues by following the escalation procedures. Operators are expected to complete training, a shadow shift, and certification before their first solo shift.

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer-facing, fast-paced setting such as hospitality, retail, events, fitness, or recreational sports.
  • A real relationship with basketball through playing, coaching, refereeing, scorekeeping, or organizing, and sufficient knowledge to follow calls and answer rules questions.
  • Accuracy under pressure, including keeping the clock, scoresheet, and stream correct during close games, while remaining neutral when players push back.
  • Outgoing communication skills and comfort initiating conversations with new people, greeting them, and remembering names.
  • Comfort with tablets, phones, and streaming apps, and ability to troubleshoot before seeking help.
  • Availability for game nights at the assigned venue, roughly 6 p.m. to midnight, including weekends; must be on site for the full shift and have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Scorekeeping, timekeeping, refereeing, or event staffing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the scoreboard, game clock, shot clock, possession arrow, and scoresheet accurately; record fouls and timeouts, sound the horn for referee-signaled substitutions, and apply timing rules.
  • Set up and monitor the BallerTV stream, ensuring it is live before tip-off and at halftime, remains live through the final buzzer, and has adequate battery and framing; pause play and troubleshoot stream interruptions, escalating to the Game Day Lead if needed.
  • Welcome athletes and teams, check players in, distribute jerseys, answer questions about schedules, standings, and rules, and engage with players and fans during breaks.
  • Give every team at least five minutes of warm-up and start games on time, never early.
  • Check scoresheets for overdue balances and players not on the roster; do not check in such players, notify the referees and Game Day Lead, and leave forfeiture and roster decisions to the League Manager or, when off site, the Game Day Lead.
  • Arrive at venue call time and help set up courts, score tables, check-in, and brand fixtures according to the site map and Game Day Lead’s assignments.
  • At the end of the night, return equipment and completed scoresheets, clear the court, take down and store banners, and confirm with the Game Day Lead before clocking out.
  • Rotate between the score table, check-in, and floor as assigned so every court is covered and the entrance remains staffed.
  • Stay calm and escalate disputed scores, equipment failures, ejections, and players not on the scoresheet to the Game Day Lead; stop games and contact the League Manager immediately for injuries, fights, or emergencies.
  • Maintain the Brodie Standard: wear the full uniform, arrive on time, carry a walkie, remain neutral during play, keep only water at the table, and keep personal phones away except to check the stream.
  • Complete training, a shadow shift, and certification before the first solo shift, and act on feedback from the Game Day Lead.
