Game Day Operator (Long Island)

Brodie Rec League•Huntington Station, NY
•$17 - $17•Onsite

About The Position

The Game Day Operator runs the court and welcomes athletes on game nights. Depending on the assignment from the Game Day Lead, the operator works at the score table, check-in, or on the floor helping set up the gym. The role ensures games are accurate, on time, and streamed, while providing athletes with a welcoming experience. The League Manager hires, schedules, and develops operators; the Game Day Lead trains and leads them on the floor. Strong performance may lead to floor leadership opportunities.

Requirements

  • Experience in a customer-facing, fast-paced setting such as hospitality, retail, events, fitness, or recreational sports.
  • A strong relationship with basketball and enough knowledge of the game to follow calls and answer rules questions.
  • Accuracy under pressure, including keeping the clock, scoresheet, and stream correct during close games, while remaining neutral when players push back.
  • Outgoing manner and comfort initiating conversations and remembering names.
  • Comfort with tablets, phones, and streaming apps, including troubleshooting before requesting help.
  • Availability for game nights at the assigned venue, roughly 6 p.m. to midnight, including weekends; must be on site for the full shift and have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Scorekeeping, timekeeping, refereeing, or event-staffing experience is a strong asset.
  • Prior playing, coaching, refereeing, scorekeeping, or organizing experience in basketball.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the scoreboard, clock, BallerTV iPad, and scoresheet accurately; manage shot clocks, team fouls, timeouts, possession arrow, substitutions, timing rules, and jersey numbers.
  • Set up and operate the BallerTV stream before games, monitor it throughout play, and troubleshoot stream interruptions, battery, and framing issues.
  • Welcome athletes and guests, conduct check-in, distribute jerseys, answer questions, greet teams, learn captains’ names, and engage with players and fans.
  • Provide teams at least five minutes of warm-up and start games on time, never early.
  • Check scoresheets for overdue balances and unrostered players; notify referees and the Game Day Lead when issues arise. Leave forfeit and roster decisions to the League Manager or, when they are off site, the Game Day Lead.
  • Arrive at the venue’s call time and help set up courts, score tables, check-in, and brand fixtures according to the site map and the Game Day Lead’s direction.
  • At the end of the night, return equipment and completed scoresheets, clear the court, take down and store banners, and confirm with the Game Day Lead before clocking out.
  • Rotate between score table, check-in, and floor duties as assigned so every court is covered and the entrance remains staffed.
  • Stay calm and promptly escalate disputed scores, equipment failures, ejections, and unrostered players to the Game Day Lead; stop play and contact the League Manager for injuries, fights, and emergencies.
  • Follow the Brodie Standard: wear the full uniform, arrive on time, carry a walkie, remain neutral during play, keep only water at the table, and keep personal phone use limited to checking the stream.
  • Complete training, a shadow shift, and certification before the first solo shift, and respond to on-the-spot feedback from the Game Day Lead.
