About The Position

The Freight Operations Supervisor at XPO leads and supervises freight operations, managing staff, workloads, schedules, and administrative functions to meet production and service goals. The role ensures freight is processed, handled, loaded, and delivered on time and without damage while enforcing company, safety, and regulatory requirements. The supervisor coaches and develops employees, communicates policies and operational updates, supports safety and engagement initiatives, and identifies improvements to productivity, quality, and network performance. The role involves working on a loading dock that is not climate controlled and working outdoors in inclement weather. It requires frequent lifting of objects up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of objects greater than 75 pounds, along with extended periods of walking and standing and repeated reaching, bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting, and kneeling. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. A conditional offer may require a pre-employment drug test, and the position is subject to a post-offer background check.

Requirements

At least 2 years of related work experience in a warehouse, distribution, supply chain, transportation, or similar environment.
Knowledge of the Less-than-Truckload (LTL) industry, hazardous materials regulations, and DOT rules and regulations.
Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 pounds and occasionally greater than 75 pounds.
Ability to reach (including above the head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate controlled.
Ability to work outside in inclement weather.
Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Distribution, or Logistics, or 4 years of related work or military experience.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise all aspects of freight operations.
Develop and implement strategic work procedures to meet changing departmental demands.
Evaluate, manage, assign, and supervise workloads and tasks.
Supervise hourly staff across operations and serve as the primary point of contact for workplace concerns and questions.
Manage tonnage, payroll, and administrative functions to meet production goals.
Plan hourly employee schedules to support daily operational goals and lower costs.
Enforce company, FMCSR, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC, and DOT policies, rules, regulations, and laws.
Implement applicable workplace policies and procedures and enforce compliance to optimize network performance.
Ensure customer freight is processed, handled, loaded, and delivered timely and damage free.
Coach and develop employees on proper techniques and quality requirements, conduct new-hire evaluations, and determine whether corrective action is warranted for policy violations.
Direct the team to consistently meet or exceed productivity goals.
Make recommendations regarding hiring, suspension, and termination.
Develop and present action plans to improve load average and model compliance.
Participate in internal safety and engagement committees.
Train employees on safety rules and processes.
Monitor and maintain organization during the shift to support safety and productivity.
Conduct daily staff meetings and communicate corporate messages and policy and procedure revisions.
Inspect workplace tools and equipment for safe operating conditions and direct correction of improper or adverse conditions.
Provide instruction, analyses, suggestions, and ideas to improve shift and service center operations.
Demonstrate XPO values and hold the team to the same standards.
Minimize shipment rehandle across the network by prioritizing direct loading, headloads, and sector loading while maintaining company quality standards.
