About The Position

Spur is an AI QA company that lets teams test websites using natural language. Its AI agents act like real users to automate end-to-end testing without traditional QA infrastructure. Spur is an early-stage company founded by two Yale alumni and backed by First Round Capital, Neo, Pear VC, Conviction, and Y Combinator. Its product is used by companies including Wander.com, Living Spaces, and Nextdoor.

Design is foundational to Spur’s product. The Founding Designer will shape how testing feels and help redefine UI/UX for software testing. Because AI supports test creation, editing, execution, and reporting, the role will focus on designing seamless workflows that make the product trustworthy, intuitive, and powerful for users across teams.

This is an in-person position at Spur’s New York City office. As an early-stage company, Spur expects the role to involve working hard and moving quickly. The role may grow to include building and leading the design team, shaping Spur’s public design voice, and representing the company at design events and conferences.

Requirements

• Experience shipping complex, high-quality products.
• Ideally, at least 2 years of experience designing for technical or operations-heavy users.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and bring structure to situations where none exists.
• Ability to move quickly while maintaining craft and polish.
• High personal standards and strong attention to detail.
• Initiative and willingness to take ownership and solve problems hands-on.
• Willingness to work in person at Spur’s New York City office.
• Comfort with the pace and demands of working at an early-stage company.

• Prior experience founding a company or building products at an early stage.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product design, from early ideation through polished, shipped experiences.
• Create Spur’s visual identity, including its brand, design system, and style guidelines.
• Design new user workflows that make complex systems feel fast, intuitive, and powerful.
• Promote a culture of craft and attention to detail across the company.
• Work with engineering and product teams to shape the roadmap through a design lens.
• Help define Spur’s voice and presence in the product, marketing, and broader public sphere.
• As the role grows, build and lead the design team, including hiring and establishing team culture.
• Shape Spur’s public design voice through thought leadership, events, talks, and writing.
• Collaborate on go-to-market work, including assets, launch moments, and social content.
• Host design gatherings and represent Spur at industry events and conferences.
