About The Position

Spur is an AI QA platform that lets people test websites using natural language. Its AI agents act like real users to automate end-to-end testing without traditional QA infrastructure. Spur is founded by two Yale alumni and backed by First Round Capital, Neo, Pear VC, Conviction, and Y Combinator.

Design is foundational to Spur’s product. The Founding Designer will help define how testing feels and reimagine user experiences in a traditionally under-designed software category. Because people across a company—not just engineering and QA—can create and run tests, the product must make complex testing workflows feel trustworthy, intuitive, and powerful. AI is integrated throughout test creation, editing, execution, and reporting, creating an opportunity to design seamless workflows that build user confidence.

This is an in-person role at Spur’s New York City office. Spur is an early-stage company where the role involves working hard and moving quickly. The position may grow to include building and leading the design team, shaping Spur’s public design voice, contributing to go-to-market work, and representing the company at events.

Requirements

• Have shipped complex, high-quality products; ideally have at least 2 years of experience designing for technical or operations-heavy users.
• Be comfortable navigating ambiguity and bringing structure where none exists.
• Move quickly without compromising craft and polish.
• Take initiative, solve problems directly, and hold work to a high standard.
• Be willing to work hard and move quickly in an early-stage company.
• Work in person at Spur’s New York City office.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end product design, from early ideation through polished, shipped experiences.
• Create Spur’s visual identity, including its brand, design system, and style guidelines.
• Design new user workflows that make complex systems feel fast, intuitive, and powerful.
• Drive a culture of craft and attention to detail across the company.
• Work closely with engineering and product to shape the roadmap through a design lens.
• Help define Spur’s voice and presence in the product, marketing, and the wider world.
• Potentially build and lead the design team, including hiring and shaping team culture.
• Potentially shape Spur’s public design voice through thought leadership, events, talks, and writing.
• Potentially collaborate on go-to-market work, including assets, launch moments, and social content.
• Potentially host design gatherings and represent Spur at industry events and conferences.
