About The Position

August is building AI agents and workflows to automate legal work and help law firms and in-house teams reshape how legal services are delivered. The company partners with law firms, shares revenue from work delivered through its agents, and aims to make high-quality legal work more accessible and affordable. August is an early-stage, fast-growing company with a lean, in-person team in New York City. The Founding Designer will own the design function end-to-end, shaping the product experience, refining the brand identity, and establishing the design culture. Working closely with the founders, engineers, and legal experts, this person will create intuitive interfaces for complex AI workflows and develop a brand that resonates with law firms worldwide. The role covers product and brand design, from prototyping and testing interfaces to creating a consistent visual language across the product, website, and external communications.

Requirements

At least 2 years of professional design experience in product design, brand design, or both.
A strong portfolio showcasing polished product design and/or brand systems.
Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma or equivalent, and comfort with rapid iteration.
Ability to design elegant solutions for complex workflows.
Comfort working at an early-stage company with ownership and autonomy.

Responsibilities

Lead design for product and brand, including UI/UX, visual identity, and marketing materials.
Translate complex legal AI workflows into simple, intuitive user experiences.
Partner with engineers to prototype, test, and ship AI-native interfaces at speed.
Develop a consistent visual language across the product, website, and external communications.
Help establish August’s design culture, processes, and standards.
