About The Position

The Food Service Supervisor oversees inmate labor and team members assisting with food service operations inside the Onondaga County jail/correctional facility in Jamesville. The role involves preparing and serving a variety of food items according to assigned work instructions and menus, and using food-preparation utensils and equipment. The position reports to a Food Service Director and is performed onsite. The ideal candidate is passionate about food and service, understands food-handling regulations, wants to continue learning, works well as part of a team, adapts quickly to change, and is flexible.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Understanding of food-handling regulations.
• Ability to lift, bend, push, kneel, walk, and stand for extended periods, including being on one’s feet for much of the scheduled shift.
• Ability to work as a team member, adapt quickly to changes, and remain flexible.

Nice To Haves

• Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage inmate labor and team members in the kitchen during food preparation and food service shifts.
• Serve food during planned meal schedules and according to department procedures.
• Use kitchen utensils and equipment to cook food according to recipes.
• Use appropriate utensils to serve menu portions that meet clients’ nutritional needs.
• Train other food service workers.
• Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates.
• Perform other responsibilities as determined by the employer’s needs.
